Welcome to the first post in our Table of Two Tribes series! In this series, myself (Ethan) and my fiancé Jazz will embark on a journey of painting a periodically expanding tribe, then mustering upon the battlefield to determine whose tribe is best.
We’ve decided to start our journey by each building a 10 Model Tribe, perfect for smaller intro games of Tribal Conquest! We’ll first check in with Jazz to see which models she has chosen for her starting tribe and why.
J: I have chosen Shaman 4 to lead my tribe, as it’s my favourite Shaman that we currently make! (shhhhh). Additionally, I’ve chosen some Hunters, Spear Warriors, Trackers and Preachers. I figure that I can utilise the Trackers KEEN EYE synergy with the Hunter to more accurately whittle down Ethan's tribe from afar before my Spear Warriors engage in melee. I’ve also included 3 Braves as their MANA CONDUIT ability allows them to generate Mana as if they were two models, a really useful ability in a game revolving around magical Shaman!
My tribe has been primed using Colour Forge Wight Bone, which will be a great neutral base colour for painting skin, cloth, and hair. Technically, I’m halfway done!
E: Back to me! So onto tribe composition... In addition to the required Shaman (of which I’ve chosen Shaman 3), I’ve decided to use 6 Braves, 2 Outcasts and 1 Elder. Now, you might be thinking that without any dedicated warriors or followers with ranged damage potential, this is over before it's even begun.
Well, I plan to demonstrate the destructive power of a Shaman with access to a large pool of mana, hence the 6 Braves. In addition to quickly generating lots of Mana, pairing my Shaman up with an Elder allows me to use the ELDER KNOWLEDGE ability, aka spending 1 Mana Token to modify my casting roll by +6, ensuring that I have a higher chance of successfully casting those scenario critical spells.
Finally, I have chosen 2 Outcasts, which have many strengths; such as beginning the game off the battlefield and their powerful BACKSTAB, which can be utterly devastating if targeting the enemy Shaman. Additionally, because the Outcasts begin the game off the battlefield, I have a higher chance in the early game to be the Priority Player, thus activating models and casting spells first.
I’ve begun by priming my Tribe white, as it's my preferred colour when it comes to painting skin.
Check back with us next time, where we’ll both (hopefully) have a fully painted tribe! In the meantime, if you want to build a tribe along with us, make sure you post pictures on your social media site of choice and tag us!
